I know I haven't updated this page in an embarassingly long time, so just wanted to mention that we are alive and well, and currently in the studio working on our first real album.

There's an Article on MSNBC which covers the increasing popularity of Creative Commons licensing:
Interest in Creative Commons licenses comes as artists, authors and traditional media companies begin to warm to the idea of the Internet as friend instead of foe, and race to capitalize on technologies such as file-sharing and digital copying.

Two interesting stories that foreshadow the death of CDs (and other music media).
First, a Washington Post article which looks at the future (and present) of music distribution, and wonders if there's any place for fixed media.
Second, a Grammy award for jazz composer Maria Schneider's album "Concert in the Garden", which was sold only on the Net and which made her more money that any artist could expect with traditional labels and distributors.

It's a story as old as time: band signs with label, label dumps band, band releases album for free on the net, album jumps to #8 on the charts.

Just when I was getting psyched at the possibility of getting instant live CDs right after seeing a concert, along comes the news that Clear Channel has acquired the patent, and they aren't sharing.

Numbers are like people: tortune them enough and they'll tell you whatever you want to hear. In this case, it's the RIAA trying to convince the world that they're not making money hand-over-fist.

The advantages to purchasing music online, by the track, are obvious: cheaper, higher quality, music. Hence, the popularity of online music services, i.e. iTunes.
The record companies, however, seem to ascribe the success of online music to "Internet Magic". Why else would they raise prices and decrease quality and still expect people to go for it?
Theorem: There is no idea so good, nor technology so useful, that a sufficiently greedy company cannot run it into the ground.
Proof: As follows ...
